--RHP Craig Hansen will throw off a mound Friday for the first time since going on the disabled list April 20 with neck spasms. The Pirates, though, don't have a timetable for when Hansen might be able to go on a minor league rehabilitation assignment.
--RHP Matt Capps converted his first save opportunity since missing eight games with a sore elbow. He got the final two outs Wednesday, then said his arm felt fine. Capps entered the game with a 5-1 lead in the ninth, one out and runners on first and second, and he gave up an RBI single to Albert Pujols. However, Capps then got Chris Duncan to bounce into a game-ending double play. --SS Jack Wilson said he felt fine one day after returning to action Tuesday night, then proved it by going 3-for-4 while making three outstanding defensive plays in the field. Wilson had been on the disabled list since April 25 with a sprained left middle finger.
MEDICAL WATCH:
RHP Craig Hansen (neck spasms) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 20. He played catch May 3 for the first time since getting hurt, and he will throw off a mound May 15. There was no timetable for when he might start a rehab assignment.
C Ryan Doumit (broken bone in right wrist) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 20. He had surgery April 23, and he will be out eight to 10 weeks.
LHP Phil Dumatrait (arthroscopic right shoulder surgery in August 2008) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27. He was pitching in extended spring training in mid-April.
