--SS Jack Wilson began an injury rehabilitation assignment with Class AAA Indianapolis on Friday night, playing five innings at Syracuse and going 1-for-3 with a two-run double. Wilson, who has been on the disabled list since April 25 with a sprained left middle finger, is expected to play four games for Indianapolis then be activated from the disabled list Tuesday night before the Pirates play St. Louis in the opener of a three-game series and six-game homestand.
--RHP Matt Capps played long toss and threw 10 pitches off the mound before Friday's games as he was unavailable to pitch for a fourth straight game because of elbow pain. Capps is scheduled to throw 25 pitches off the mound Saturday but likely won't be cleared for game action again until Tuesday. The Pirates have not had any save situations since their closer felt pain in the elbow after suffering a blown save and a loss on Monday against Milwaukee. MEDICAL WATCH:

RHP Craig Hansen (neck spasms) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 20. He played catch May 3 for the first time since getting hurt.
C Ryan Doumit (broken bone in right wrist) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 20. He had surgery April 23, and he will be out eight to 10 weeks.
LHP Phil Dumatrait (arthroscopic right shoulder surgery in August 2008) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27. He was pitching in extended spring training in mid-April.
