--SS Jack Wilson was a late scratch from the lineup because of a strained left middle finger, which he suffered in Monday's home opener while swinging at a pitch. He was replaced by INF Ramon Vazquez. Wilson had a pinch single in the seventh but said he is questionable for Thursday's game against Houston.

--OF Craig Monroe got his first start of the season as the Pirates saw their first left-handed starter of the season. Monroe went 1-for-4. He led the Pirates with eight home runs and 16 RBIs in spring training.

--LHP Dave Davidson, who was at Class AAA Indianapolis, was designated for assignment to make room on the roster for OF Delwyn Young, who was acquired from the Dodgers in a trade. Davidson made two relief appearances for the Pirates at the end of the 2007 season.

MEDICAL WATCH:

SS Jack Wilson (strained left middle finger) was scratched from the lineup April 15, although he pinch-hit. He is questionable for April 16.

LHP Phil Dumatrait (arthroscopic right shoulder surgery in August 2008) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27. He could be ready to join the Pirates rotation by the end of April.
