--RHP Craig Hansen is still unable to throw off a mound as he continues to be bothered by neck spasms. The Pirates do not have a timetable for when Hansen, who has been on the DL since April 20, when might be able to progress beyond playing catch.
--RHP Jimmy Barthmaier, who is on the 40-man roster and the disabled list at Class AAA Indianapolis, will undergo reconstructive elbow surgery Tuesday. James Andrews will perform the operation at Birmingham, Ala. Barthmaier made only one start for Indianapolis this season and left the game after walking the first two batters. --C Adam Melhuse was signed as a minor-league free agent and assigned to Indianapolis. Melhuse, 37, has spent eight seasons in the major leagues with the Los Angeles Dodgers (2000), Colorado (2000-01, 2008), Oakland (2003-07) and Colorado (2007-08), hitting .234 with 24 home runs and 98 RBIs in 311 games.
