"There is still pain, but it's not nearly as bad as it was before I went on the DL, and the swelling has gone down significantly," Wilson said. "I'll still feel pain on some swings, but it's manageable. It's something I'm going to have to play through."
The Pirates were 10-6 when Wilson went on the DL, then proceeded to lose 13 of their next 15.
"It was frustrating to sit and watch us keep losing," Wilson said. "Hopefully, maybe I can provide a little something to help us get things turned around."
Said Pirates manager John Russell: "Jack's our shortstop and it's always good to have your starting shortstop in the lineup."
PIRATES 7, CARDINALS 1: Brandon Moss and Adam LaRoche homered to break out of slumps as the Pirates ended their eight-game losing streak and won for only the second time in 14 games. Moss went 3-for-4 after entering the game hitless in his last 15 at bats, and LaRoche's fifth-inning homer snapped a 1-for-30 skid. Zach Duke (3-3) allowed one run and four hits in eight innings.
