CINCINNATI ? Paul Maholm pitched seven solid innings and catcher Ryan Doumit hit a ninth-inning grand slam to seal the Pirates' 10-2 victory against the Cincinnati Reds this afternoon at the Great American Ball Park.
Maholm allowed one run and three hits in his second outing to pick up his first win of the season. Doumit was 3-for-5 with his first career grand slam, four RBI ? tying his career high ? and a run scored. Leftfielder Nyjer Morgan had a stellar afternoon going 3-for-4 with a walk, two stolen bases and two runs scored. Centerfielder Nate McLouth helped out offensively with three RBI, including a first-inning, two-run homer which gave the Pirates an early 2-0 advantage. The Pirates took a 4-0 lead in the fourth when Jack Wilson doubled to knock in Brandon Moss and Nyjer Morgan tripled to score Wilson.
McLouth came through again in the seventh when he doubled to right. There was a play at the plate, but Morgan collided with Reds catcher Ramon Hernandez before he crossed the plate and made the score, 5-0.
The Reds scored a run in the seventh inning and another in the ninth as Reds pitcher Johnny Cueto inherited the loss.
