 The TORONTO BLUE JAYS are pleased to announce that ROY SMITH has joined the Blue Jays organization, accepting a position as a Professional Scout. SMITH brings 30 years experience to the club, beginning as a player, and serving in many front office capacities. The Mount Vernon, New York native spent the last 13 seasons in the Pirates organization, most recently as a Special Assistant to the General Manager. He served six seasons as (1999-2004) as the Assistant General Manager for the Pirates, including being appointed Interim General Manager from June11-July12, 2001. The former 1979 third round pick of the Philadelphia Phillies, Smith played eight seasons in the major leagues. The right-handed pitcher posted a 30-31 record with a 4.60 ERA and was a member of the World Champion Minnesota Twins in 1987.
